Lens Materials

Plastic Lenses

Lighter than glass and can be tinted in any color or shade.  Can scratch and not impact resistant.

Glass Lenses

Offers great optics  and the best scratch resistance, however must be specially treated for impact resistance and much heavier than other lenses.

Polycarbonate

Lightweight.  Most impact resistant lenses available.  Necessity for kids, teens, active adults, occupational safety and anyone needing superior eye protection.

HI-Index Lenses

Thinner and lighter which works great for higher prescriptions in making the lens appear thinner.

Lens Designs

Progressive Lenses

Correct for far (driving), intermediate (computer or dashboard) and near (reading) all in one lens without visible lines.  Most cosmetically desirable multifocal.  Great for computer users who require multifocal correction.

Bifocal Lenses

Provide both far (driving) and near (reading) correction in one lens.  Visible lines in lenses.  Not recommended for computer users or those requiring good intermediate vision.

Trifocal Lenses

Basically these are progressive lenses with visible lines.  Less cosmetically desirable.

Single Vision Lenses

This all-purpose lens is available in all materials and can be used for either distance, intermediate or near vision correction.

Golf Lenses

Specialty Lenses

Lens Coatings

Non-Glare Coating

Essential for computer work.  Improves night-time driving.  Provides clearer, crisper vision compared to regular lenses and reduces eye fatigue in all situations.  Cosmetically more appealing because no glare from lenses.  Everyone should have this coating on their lenses.

Scratch Coating

Protects lenses from everyday wear and tear.  Some lenses include scratch resistance and no coating is needed.

UV Coating

UV rays pose significant harm to the eyes and eyelids.  UV protection on lenses is equivalent to sunscreen on your skin.  Eye diseases such as Cataracts and Macular Degeneration are associated with UV damage.

Tinted Lenses

Transition Lenses

Change from clear indoors to dark outdoors.  Provides UV protection and visual comfort from eyestrain and fatigue.  Great for all ages, especially kids.
